An update!!

Just stealing from a favorite of mine, Pascal Campion. Sorry for the lack of updates. Just been REALLY busy, lately.

Taking a huge dump!

A SKETCH dump that is! See what I did there?

Last couple of days I've been practicing tying down my sketches. I think I've found a method that works!

This one was just randomly doodling. Loosely sketching it red, tying down the form in black, then shading in blue.



These two were from Ben Caldwell's Fantasy Cartooning book. Lots of fun characters in there!



These were caricatures of people walking by while on a few of my lunch breaks. Started playing with ink, here.


This one's pretty cool! I'd like to try to color this one in. Same with the rest of these!

Finding Nemo Studies

I plan to do something with this. Just not today. Just a note, I was trying to caricature Bubbles' design a bit. Time to work on the freelance stuff!

"Our Gang" Studies cont.

Continuing the study from last post, I decided to make the panel on a 9" x 12" sheet of bristol.



Found this one to be the closest to the original's proportions. Roughly started to tie it down with a 2B pencil.


I then started to clean up the roughs. I also wanted to separate the characters from the background (kinda like I'm animating it).



Inked these on the opposite side.


My inks could be a little more careful. I was a little tired when I got to this point so I may just redo them. Still, lots of fun to work on! :)

"Our Gang" Studies

Found a favorite panel from the first volume of Walt Kelly's "Our Gang" and started copying it.


First, I loosely sketched the overall layout, then started focusing on particular details, like the characters themselves.




Took me a few days since I don't have a whole lot of free time, although I may try to clean these up. It was a fun project to work on.

Practicing backgrounds.

Need to work on this a bit since I mostly do characters. The screenshot is from Disney's Home on the Range, downloaded from the Animation Background Blog.

Cow Studies

Did a study from Kevin Langley's awesome blog. This cow is from Tex Avery's "The Farm of Tomorrow".

Popeye Studies

I'm going to start pushing myself to practice these copying exercises every day before I work on my freelance.

The screenshot was taken from John K.'s blog. I'd recommend giving that a look see. It's filled with a lot of great cartooning/animating exercises.
